Message
The Christmas season is upon us and the growing
excitement within the school is very noticeable. This is a very
busy time for everyone, including the staff here at Baltimore
School. We attempt to make this part of the school year enjoyable
for all, by offering events and activities that include all our
students. There are many events that will take place over the next
two weeks and we encourage you as parents to get involved, either
through participation or volunteering, with as many as possible.
To date, we have had many successes this year
and we look forward to many more in the new year. Many thanks for
your support because we all need to be working together to ensure
the best possible education for your children. Many of our students
have been working hard this year and the results show in their
evaluations.
On behalf of the staff at Baltimore School, I
would like to wish everyone a very enjoyable and fun-filled
Christmas season, and a healthy and safe time for all.
Math Scholars
Students from grade 4-8 participated in a
national math competition last May. Congratulations to all the
students on their performance. The following were the first place
winners at each level:
Bryon-Germain: Noah Hayden
Fibonacci: Jordan Mayo
Pythagoras: Wyatt Maloney
Euler: Peter Kavanagh
Lagrange: Nicholas Arsenault
Baltimore School is especially proud of Jordan
Mayo who was named the provincial champion for grade 5 Math

Literacy Assembly & Awards Presentation
On Tuesday, December 9th, Baltimore
School will be hosting an Assembly and all parents are invited. The
Assembly begins at 9:30am with the awarding of attendance pins and
academic excellence certificates for those students who excelled
last year in Kindergarten, grade 1, grade 2 and grade 3.
Following these awards, we will proceed with
our second K – Grade 6 Literacy Assembly of the year. Students
wishing to receive awards for level one or two should have their
completed reading log sheets returned to school no later than
Monday, December 8th. Also, the Drama Club will be
performing several entertaining skits during the Assembly. We look
forward to seeing you on Tuesday morning.
Student Turkey Dinner
On Wednesday, Dec. 17th,
we will be providing a turkey dinner to all students in our school.
Last year was the first year for such an undertaking, and it proved
to be a tremendous success. We would like to make this an annual
tradition. In order for this to succeed, once again we need your
help. If you would like to donate a turkey, cook a turkey, donate
vegetables, or just help prepare the meal at the school on the
morning of Dec. 17, please call the school and inform the
secretary. We would like to know by Monday, Dec. 8th if
you can donate any items.
Next Fundraiser

This print was
donated by local artist and Language Arts teacher at Baltimore
School, Ms. Rene Pike. Each family has been given 10 tickets to
sell. Tickets are $2.00 each or 3 for $5.00. The prize will be drawn
at the Christmas concert on December 15th, 2008. If
anyone needs more tickets, please contact the school at 432-2090.
All tickets must be returned to the school no later than December 10th,
2008. Thanks for all your support.

Santa and Mrs. Claus
Gift Exchange
On Wednesday, December 17th,
Santa and Mrs. Claus will be visiting the school to give gifts to
the Kindergarten to Grade 6 students and to have milk and cookies.
In order for this to be a success, we ask that each child bring a
gift for another student. Individual classes will be drawing names
in order to ensure all students receive a gift. It is important
that we stay at the $10 range when purchasing a gift. If there are
concerns or issues with this activity, please contact Mr. Budgell at
the school. All students are assured of receiving a present.
Recipe Book
This is the first year in a very long time that
Baltimore School has offered Home Economics and Nutrition classes to
our students. The cost of materials and supplies for the cooking
and baking is quite expensive. Therefore, the classes are
organizing a recipe book to sell. Ms. Lawlor is overseeing this
project and she would love to have any recipes that you would like
to share. Please send recipes to Ms. Lawlor by way of your child or
you can drop them off at the office. We will give acknowledgement
to those that share their recipes.
‘Caught Ya Being Kind’ and ‘Thoughtful
Thursdays!’
As part of
the Safe and Caring School’s initiative to foster and promote
respect, safety and student well-being, the Safe and Caring
committee at Baltimore School has started two projects: ‘Caught ya
being kind’ for students in K-6 and ‘Thoughtful Thursdays’ for
grades 7-Level III.
‘Caught ya
being kind’ occurs daily whereby a teacher acknowledges acts of
kindness by a student and gives that student a small card. The card
is then filled out by either the student or the teacher and then
placed in that student’s classroom for the purpose of holding a draw
every Friday in each classroom for prizes. At the end of every month
the classroom with the most ‘Caught ya being kind’ cards will win a
prize for the whole class. Winners so far were Connor Devine,
Brianna Dalton, Shawn Greene, Brady Kenny, Shayne Kavanagh, Amber
Hynes, Karrie Ryan, Patrick Battcock, Devon Lawlor, and Emily
Kavanagh.
‘Thoughtful
Thursdays’ takes place every second Thursday. Junior and senior
high school teachers will acknowledge students’ random acts of
kindness by giving those students a ticket. A draw will take place
at the end of the day and one lucky winner will receive a $20.00
gift card for the cafeteria. Winners so far were Kelsey Dalton and
Chad Sutton.
Bob Caul Sr. Girls Basketball Tournament
This weekend our Sr. Girls basketball team is
hosting the Bob Caul Invitational Tournament. There are 6 teams
entered with the Championship game scheduled for 4:30pm on
Saturday. Our girls play their next game at 7:30 tonight. Good
luck to coaches, Ms. Paula Johnson and Judy Dunne, and all the
girls. If you get a chance, come out and cheer on our girls.
Star Student
Every week at Baltimore School, a student from
each class (Kindergarten to Grade 6) is chosen as a STAR STUDENT
based on the theme for that week. Themes are chosen based on
positive attitudes including caring and respect for self and
others. A picture of the student is posted on a leaf and placed on
the peace tree. Their name and the theme for the week is written on
a star and placed on the wall in the corridor of the K-6 wing of the
building for everyone to see.
Here is a list of themes and students=

Graduation and Awards Contributors
Baltimore School wishes to offer a heartfelt
thank-you for the generous donations and continued support for our
annual Cap and Gown and Academic Awards ceremonies which were held
on November 21, 2008. These Ceremonies celebrated those students
who, through dedication and hard work, achieve the highest pinnacle
of their high school careers. Without your donations, it would be
impossible for us to honor our students with the plaques, awards,
and scholarships which they so richly deserve. Once again,
thank-you for your continued support and we look forward to
partnering with you in the future.
