A. Garrigus Collegiate was opened in 1967 after the existing
school at St. Lunaire was destroyed by fire. It housed grades
K-12 and included students from the Griquet school located at
Dark Tickle which closed due to the opening of this school.
A. Garrigus Collegiate provided many new facilities such as a
large indoor gymnasium.
In the 1980's an addition was made to the school to accommodate
an increasing student body. A fully equipped science laboratory
was also added to the school. In the early nineties a computer
lab was added and has been continually upgraded ever since.
In September
of 1997 major changes took place at Garrigus.
High school enrollment increased dramatically due to education
reform. The grade 7 to12 students of Truman Eddison Memorial (T. E. M), which is
located in Gunner's Cove, were combined with grades 7 to 12 students already at Garrigus, while
K-6 students were bussed to T. E. M.
Before school opened in September 1999 the school was renamed Bayview Regional Collegiate Bayview Regional Collegiate now accommodates students from grades 7 to 12
from St. Lunaire- Griquet, Gunners Cove, Quirpon, Noddy Bay, Straitsview, Hay
Cove, and L'Anse Aux Meadows. Enrollment in September 2002 is at 137. During the fall of 2000 the Public Library and the School Library entered into a joint service agreement, as well, this new library became the location of the local CNL-CAP site. This site provides 5 computers with Internet access for both students and the general public.
