Antarctica

Antarctica is located entirely within the Antarctic Circle, surrounding the South Pole.  It is located within the Southern Hemisphere.  Antarctica is mostly circular in shape with a long arm, the Antarctic Peninsula reaching out toward South America.  The Weddle Sea lies to the north of Antarctica.

Antarctica is the coldest of  all the continents.  It has the lowest temperate ever recorded on earth.  Antarctica has three basic climatic regions.  The interior is characterized by extreme cold and light snow fall.  The coastal areas are characterized by some milder temperatures and much higher precipitation.

Antarctica is fifth largest of the earth's seven continents.  It is the last vast wilderness on the planet.  There are gigantic iceberg and mountain ranges. Antarctica is the most isolated continent on the planet.  Tourism, not mining or oil drilling is the industry that is growing in Antarctica. The winter (non tourist) season population is around 1200 people.

In our group, we studied about the continent  Antarctica. We searched the internet and used Encarta to find information. We had fun doing this project!!!
