Code of Student Conduct
At CC Loughlin we want our students to be partners with us in creating the best possible learning environment where every student is provided a safe opportunity to learn in a nurtured environment. The two pillars forming the bases for our approach are: Respect and Responsibility. We firmly believe students should have respect for other people, their school, and their environment. We emphasize they accept responsibility for all their choices and actions. It is imperative to teach children they must make good choices and accept the responsibility when these choices have negatively affected themselves or others.
School Discipline Policy
Attempts are make to solve all conflicts at the class room level however we recognize there are times when additional measures must be taken. Our three step approach involves the following protocol when classroom intervention has failed. Please note the following procedure is only enacted when major conflicts have taken place over a short period of time.
First the child is sent to the principal office’s and an attempt is make to solve the conflict through verbal analysis.
Second Encounter: The child is sent to the principal office and conflict resolution is attempted with assistance from the student’s parent. At this stage the parent is not required to come to the school.
Third Encounter: The parent is required to come to the school and assist the school administrator in solving the conflict. The student is not permitted back into the classroom until this meeting occurs.
Fourth Encounter: Parents are required to attend a meeting with the school administrator: A suspension is imposed. There are two types of suspension: In school suspension involves removing the child from the classroom setting and assigning the student appropriate work. This work will be done in the modified learning center under the supervision of a teacher. If the assigned work is not completed the student will be sent home and not permitted to return until the task is completed. The second form of suspension is called Out of School Suspension whereby students are sent home with assigned work from their home room teacher. Students are not permitted back into the school until this task is completed.
If there are subsequent "visits" to the principal's office, these in or out‑of‑school suspensions will continue. In other words, we will not be reverting back to the original response.
We believe it is important to have high expectations for our students. This is the reason parents send their children to school and schools have the responsibility to provide the best learning environment.
