This year 2007-2008 we have two projects. We will still be collecting money to build a well in India, but we also want to help families in Third World Countries in another way. We will be buying goats and farming tools through Plan Canada. Children are asked to do extra chores around the house to collect money for these projects.
In 2005-2006 school year, we introduced students to the plight of children in India. They learned how many villages in India don't have access to clean drinking water and that children often have to walk long distances to access clean water. Sopar is working to build wells in each village so that the people will have easy access to clean water. Each well costs about $750 to build. We raised enough money in the past two years to build a total of six wells! Each village that received a well also had the plaque with our school's name on it to indicate the donor.
Farming tools and goats-Plan Canada
Poor farming methods and a growing population mean most families are unable to feed themselves or earn a basic living from the land. A farming tool kit includes seeds and farming tools such as wheelbarrows, hoes, watering cans and spades. In addition, farmers learn sustainable crop and animal farming techniques as well as pest management.
