MIDDLE SCHOOL PARENTS SERVE 700+
Under the direction and leadership of Brian Ennis, our school catered two nutrition breaks and two hot meals last week to over 700 Vista School District employees; teachers, secretaries, caretakers, etc. Almost without exception, the comments were extremely positive. While Chef Ennis prepared the Chilli, Dave Hawkins (chef by trade) spent two full nights in our kitchen preparing top quality soup. Thank-you Dave! To the entire Ennis family, Brian, Leanne, Josh and Zachery a huge thank-you for your dedication of time and patience. Without your involvement, and Dave’s assistance, this undertaking would not have been possible. To the many others who helped make sandwiches, set-up and serve the food a sincere thank-you: Fiona VanDerLinde; Alex VanDerLinde; Jackie Vokey; Amy Vardy; Lezlie Ann Vardy; Sheila Goobie; Andrea Goobie, Shauna -Lee Goobie; Marilyn Green; Paddy Green; Reg Pretty; and the staff of Clarenville Middle School. Also, to our sponsors who assisted with this undertaking, Brookfield and Save Easy, a huge thank-you for assisting our school build its cafeteria resources to better serve our children.

A MESSAGE TO PARENTS
Your goals as a parent and the goals of the school for your child are the same. Full cooperation between home and school is important and we will make every attempt to adequately and timely communicate to you. The following suggestions are intended to help you make a contribution to your child's success in school:
1. Parental support along with regular and punctual attendance are the greatest factors in school success. Parents who permit a child to be absent from school unnecessarily place a handicap upon the student's opportunity to succeed in his/her studies. We will guard your child’s instructional time at school.
2. The nature of our courses is such that some work outside of class is needed. Even though written work may not be assigned, there is usually a need for extra study in the subject. You can help by providing for home study. A quiet room with good lighting is important.
3. A wholesome attitude toward school is important for your child's success. Students can learn little from a teacher they do not trust or believe in. The wise parent will bring his/her questions and problems to the principal and teachers. Support your school.
4. You may further help the school to serve your child's interest:
(a) Make it your business to know your child's teachers. Attending the ‘Parent Information Session’ will assist in this regard.
(b) Write full explanations with dates of absences and sign them yourself. We will then accurately note the same on our system.
(c) Study the report card at the end of each 12 week period carefully. Note the work habits!
(d) Refrain from telephoning students during the school hours except for real emergencies.
(e) Cooperate with the school in carrying out disciplinary action when such action is necessary. The record in this regard has been exceptional.
(f) When visiting the school, please check into the office and we will gladly have your child come to the office to meet you. Students leaving school will be asked to remain in their classrooms until their ride arrives.
(g) Teach your child respect for the law, authority and the rights of others.
We care for and look very much to serving your child in the 2003-2004 school year.
School Announcements/Messages
All school messages, including school closures will be made on CKVO 710. We will make every attempt to have announcements affecting school closures aired as early as possible.

Student Agenda
We believe that daily use of the student agenda will improve students’ organizational skills. Whether it be communicating with parents, writing in homework to be completed, setting personal goals, recording marks from tests and assignments, or reviewing school rules
and regulations, it is a valuable tool. This year, we have included curriculum material in the areas of Mathematics and English Language Arts. Check to see that your child uses it each day. He/she will benefit as a result. The Parent Information Session on Tuesday, Sept. 23 at 7:00 p.m. will address this.
Hot Meal Program
Several local businesses deliver hot lunches to our school. The cost of each Hot Lunch is $3.00 and tickets will be sold every morning from the atrium. These tickets can then be used whenever desired by the student. The hot meal program menu is as follows and a revision, if necessary, will be posted in a future newsletter.
Monday - Donnini’s Pizza and milk
Tuesday - Mary Brown’s Chicken and milk
Wednesday - Kraft Dinner, Fruit, roll and milk.
Thursday - Pizza Delight Pizza and milk
