TIDBITS

To 7 Rideout students, and Mr. Rideout, who were working in the lab Wednesday November 17th conducting an experiment related to heated air. Great cooperation and a great class. Mr. Pardy would have hypothesized that the quarter would not have raised due to ‘just’ the hands placed around the empty pop bottle. Good stuff!

Tropicana Twisters (Fruit Drinks containing Vitamin C) now available in the canteen for the price of $2.00 . Same price as Gatorade but more nutritious.

Welcome to Josie Stringer who is returning to the Middle School. Josie attended our school in grade 6 before moving to St. John’s. Staff and students of 8Organ are glad to see her back!

A SAD middle school story. During the early morning hours of Thursday Nov. 18th while students were entering the school, a chip bag lay in the path of students right in the middle of the walkway. Mr. Pardy watched as students passed by. No one stopped to pick up the litter. Moving closer, Mr. Pardy would comment to students getting off the bus, "be careful you don’t trip over the chip bag". Guess who ended up picking up the bag? After ALL students and staff entered , Mr. Pardy picked up the bag and deposited it in to the garbage container. While this marks the 1st Way To Go for Mr. Pardy , it isn’t what we would celebrate as good middle school behaviour.

World Vision. Through the efforts of the students of 5Budgell, the class is embarking upon a fundraising/awareness campaign to assist those needy citizens in underdeveloped parts of the world. Initiated by Zachery Austin, who was on CBC radio on Tuesday Nov. 22nd , this project will make available supplies where families can feed and look after themselves. A great idea carried out by a great bunch of middle school humanitarians!

NEW! ONLINE MESSAGE CENTRE FOR SCHOOL CLOSURE ANNOUNCEMENTS

The Eastern School District has a new on-line school closure message centre called Status Central. Status Central is very convenient for parents. If for any reason a school must close, either early morning or midday, the Status Central message board will be updated. Every effort will be made to have school closure announcements posted to Status Central by 6:30 a.m., and depending on the weather, anytime throughout the day. Please note that school closure announcements will continue to be broadcast on the local radio stations.

To access Status Central, log on to the Eastern School District web site:
http://www.esdnl.cawww.esdnl.ca. (The Status Central notice board is on the right side of the main page.)

You can also customize Status Central and chose only those schools you want to view.
1. Click on the Status Central symbol.
2. Select the schools you want to view.
3. Click the Submit button at the bottom of the page when finished.
4. When completed, you will get the message –– Configuration Saved. To ensure you’re getting up-to-date information on stormy days, remember to refresh your screen regularly.

WAY TO GO’S:

Way to go: to Adam Vey and Mr. Piercey who performed for the seniors at the hospital recently. Adam played the accordion, along with his brother Matthew in Grade 2 who played the ugly stick (percussion), and Mr. Piercey played the guitar. A wonderful deed by a great group of talented individuals. The Middle School Way!

Way to go : to the students of 5Pye who did a tremendous job with the ‘Reader’s Theatre’ yesterday. The 10 parents in attendance were quite pleased with the performance and Ms. Pye says the audience of grade 5 students was GREAT.

FRENCH-ENGLISH DICTIONARIES:

Often students will be unfamiliar with French words when completing class or assigned home work. Many though, do not have a dictionary to help find the meaning. Dictionaries, as used by our French teachers, can be purchased from the canteen for $3.00. Last year we purchased over 500, enabling us to sell them for this low price.

‘Turkey Sandwiches’ are now available at Clarenville Middle School’. Beginning today, Mr. Calvin Drodge, manager of Goobie’s Irving, will be supplying our school with sliced freshly baked turkey. Sandwiches will be available Monday through Friday along with the regular ham and cheese. Turkey sandwiches will be made on Monday’s and Wednesday’s of each week. Another good food selection addition. Much thanks to Mr. Drodge, Brandon Drodge’s (4Vey) pop!

Congratulations to our new student council president and vice president. This year saw the greatest participation rate ever for council elections with 8 teams offering themselves for student council leadership.
