TIDBITS
Welcome to Miriam Matchem who is now attending the Middle School. Miriam transferred from Heritage Collegiate in Lethbridge. Good to have you with us!
Grade 7 & 8 Middle School teams played in Volleyball Provincials on Saturday Dec. 4th . Congratulations to all four teams as they were great ambassadors for our school. The grade 8 boys, after going undefeated throughout the tournament, came up a little short in the championship game 26-24, receiving the silver. One of our girl’s teams entered the bronze medal match and came away with the bronze. We are very proud of ALL four squads and pleased you wore the CMS Jersey! Thank-you to Ms. Waye, Mr. Randell and Mr. Walsh for your coaching and leadership.
Coming in Middle School Newsletters : ‘Celebration of Student Volunteers’. We are looking to publish the names and deeds of students who freely give of their time to help and assist within the community. Parents, let us know!
Campbell Soup Labels : Big thank-you to Matthew Goodman, Garrett White, Robert-Paul Barron, Mitchell and Chris Parsons and Thomas Marsh on providing large amount of Campbell Soup Labels !
Middle School Boy’s Bronze Medal Winners :Grade 9 and Under Tournament at L.H.E. ! Many individuals discussed the maturity and skill level of our students. Great job! After the Middle School Tigers played very well in the round robin, they crossed over to play the grade 9's from Discovery Collegiate in a close match. When they won the 3rd game 15-13, they advanced to the semi-finals against the grade 9's from Bishop White. The match went 3 games, and we came up short 15 to 12 in game 3. The Tigers won the ‘bronze medal match’ over L.H.E. who had finished 4th in provincial play a few weeks back! Mr. Randell says the team were terrific representatives of our school and played hard! Great stuff!
Recycling Blitz: Congratulations to the students of 6Avery who won the pizza party for their outstanding recycling commitment. Next Blitz - January 12th
A CLASSIC DRAMA PRODUCTION
The timely classic, ‘Scrooge’ , was performed remarkably Tuesday night to the delight of all in attendance. The show was brought to life by a very talented group of middle school performers. Under the direction and dedication of our esteemed director, Ms. Pye, comments were noted such as: ‘ Wow! Wasn’t that fantastic!’; ‘I can’t believe the incredible job they (you- the students) did with the production’ and ‘That performance was worth $30.00'. All comments are a credit to the talented students and their director!
CHRISTMAS CELEBRATED THROUGH MUSIC
The instrumental bands and choirs illuminated the season with the sounds of music on Wednesday. The grade 5 band displayed how much they have progressed since beginning the program in September of this year and the grade 4 recorders playing Jingle Bells had the audience swaying. The Sobey’s ‘Stars of Christmas 2004' CD profiles our combined choirs as the 1st in the province with their singing of ‘A Star is Out Tonight’. Last night showed us just how good they are. A huge thank-you to Ms. Drover and Ms. Warren for all their hard work and patience.
WAY TO GO’S:
Way to go: to two very special middle school students. To Dominique Reid who gave Julia Squires part of her lunch some time ago when her lunch hadn’t arrived. Also, to Alison Button who gave her sister (Ashley) her meal ticket one lunch time because there was NO salad left at lunch which she had planned to purchase. A great family deed that occurred here at your middle school!
Way to go: to Brandon Drodge who picked up a sum of money last Friday in the Library and returned it to the office for the owner to be found. A true Middle School deed!
Way to go: to Steven Bailey ( 4Drover) who returned a lost meal ticket he found on Monday.
Way to go: to Zach Caines, Alexa Thorne, Kristen Winter, Carol Avery and Marissa Langdon , our senior students, for helping the students of 5Budgell set up Thursday morning. They moved tables from the lunch room to the atrium for the World Vision bake sale. Middle school students lending a helping hand!
FRENCH-ENGLISH DICTIONARIES
Often students will be unfamiliar with French words when completing assigned work in class or at home. Many though, do not have a dictionary to help find the meaning. Dictionaries, as used by our French teachers, can be purchased from the canteen for $3.00. Last year we purchased over 500, enabling us to sell them for this low price.
HOT MEAL PROGRAM MENU
We apologize for any confusion as a result of the menu changes over the past week. We’ve asked students to keep in mind that the wonderful volunteers who provide the meals may on occasion be unable to attend due to other commitments. Changes may and have resulted. Also, we have been aiming at getting the dinner menu as nutritious as possible. Towards this effort, please be informed of the hot meal menu:
| Monday | Tuesday | Wednesday | Thursday | Friday |
| Pizza from Pizza Delight & milk. Occasional Substitute: Mary Brown’s chicken, taters or fries and milk | Nachos and Cheese, fruit and milk | Kraft dinner, roll, fruit and milk | Rotation of meals : Spaghetti with garlic bread (this week’s selection) / Tacos / Chicken Noodle soup and grilled cheese and / Hamburgers and carrot sticks. Served with fruit and milk. | Chicken nuggets, fries and choice of drink. |
In January we will post the menu for the remainder of the year. Other notes:
Turkey sandwiches, again thanks to Mr. Calvin Drodge (Goobie’s Irving), are available daily for purchase.
Thank -you to The Rotary Club of Clarenville who has contributed $2000.00 to our meal program. One half of this amount is ear-marked for the Breakfast Program and the other half to support the Hot Meal Program and the delivery to those students who require such.
