RECENT STUDENT "WAY TO GO’S"
The following items were published in the daily morning bulletin. The intention is to celebrate the many wonderful student actions and deeds that occur in and outside our school. We have much to be proud of !
Way to go: to Nathan Vey (6Davis) who was seen by a teacher on the morning of December 17th picking up a piece of litter as he entered the building. Super middle school behaviour! GREAT!
Way to go: to Joey Kelly who assisted a classmate after a fall. Our friend Christopher Dalton fell and suffered a slight cut. Joey stayed with him and sent someone for help! A true middle school action. Also, Joey and Mr. Pardy have a lot in common - we share the same birthday and a love for chicken!
Way to go: to Taylor Harding (4Vey) who heard another student say she didn’t have recess and shared her recess with that student. What a kind middle school deed!
Way to go: to Gabriel Shea (4Drover) who assisted a teacher prior to Christmas in the Resource Centre align buckets to catch rain water and move the technology out of harms way. Thank-you Gabriel!
. WOW!Way To Go: to Charlie Brinston and Mitchell Price for helping with the Drama group’s props. A little late on the way to go, but it is STILL fresh in Ms. Pye’s mind. Thanks guys!
Way to go: to Courtney Holloway, Ashley Bursey and Adrienne Hann who noticed a garbage can that was on its side. They fixed it and picked up the litter that was on the floor as well as cleaned up the liquid that had spilled. Super middle school behaviour that occurred before Christmas and was witnessed by one of our grade 5 teachers!
Way to go: to Ms. Budgell for a very kind deed prior to Christmas. A parent of a grade 4 student called the school on Jan. 6th saying ‘she wished to pass along a way-to-go’ to a teacher. The parent had entered the school planning to buy a candygram which her son, who was home sick at the time, wished to send to his teacher and friends. Shortly after arrival she found out that they were not available. Ms. Budgell was passing by and inquired if she could be of assistance. Ms. Budgell accompanied the parent to her classroom upstairs where she provided some candygrams she had in her classroom. Needless to say, the parent was very impressed and thankful! SUPER!
Way to go: to Caroline Matthews / Katie Hawkins for helping out with the beautiful Recycling display in the atrium. Greatly appreciated! Also, BIG thank-you to Mr. Parrott for the creation of the very colourful display!
Way to go: to Nathasha Anderson for achieving her 200th entry (200 books read!!!) in her reading log, the first in 4Drover . Super achievement!
Way to go: to all students and staff on raising over $800 for the Tsunami tragedy. The number raised reflects a very caring school population that is fully aware of the devastation this Tsunami caused. Way to go: to Clarenville Middle School students and staff who raised $828.53
Way to go:
to 3 very special grade 6AVERY students who found a considerable sum of money on Friday AND IMMEDIATELY brought it to the office on order that the owner be found. Way to go: Kayla Skiffington, Megan Holloway and Hayley Morgan for this good deed. Special mention to Jordan Goobie who saw it on the snow outside and notified the girls. Super!Way to go
: to Chris Dalton who made the White Hills Ski team over the weekend. A super achievement Chris! Zoom ! Zoom!Way to go: to Steven Bailey (4D) who made two trips around the gym during lunch time to pick up balls that were just rolling around not being used. He returned them to the rack. Parrott; Justin Abbott ; Mark Bennett ; Nathan Baker ; & Ryan Fillier.
A way to go situation !! Sydney Thoms visited the vending machine last week and when purchasing one bar, two came out. She immediately gave one bar to her friend. At home she told her grandmother (Mrs. Janet Power) the story. Her grandmother discussed the situation with our young learner and offered her the money for the bar to return to the school informing her that it was inappropriate. Way to go to Sydney Thoms for being so KIND to a friend, being such a GREAT learner, and coming to the office to tell us of the situation in a MATURE manner.
Way to go: to Nick Mercer(6Avery) who will be presenting a slide presentation at the upcoming assistive technology in-service to a group of 13 teachers very soon, if the weather ever cooperates. Middle School students presenting to teachers : A GREAT indicator of good students.
Way to go: to Nicholas Skiffington for returning items that had their names on things such as lunch bags & caps to their rightful owners. Much thanks for taking the time to look for these people and return their property. GREAT deed Nicholas!

Way to go: to Nicholas Skiffington (4Vey)
who brought in Campbell’s soup labels and 6 bags of recycling this morning. WOW!Way to go: to Alexa Thorne for the daily update of the Atrium Television monitor. Wonderful graphics!!
Way to go: to Hillary Power
who showed true leadership for the student council last week by coming to school with lots of spirit to sell the ‘Kiss-o-Grams’ for our student council. Hillary was dressed in pink and prepared with a cash bag in hand.Way to go: to Adam Vey who brought a ‘puffer’ to the office in order for the rightful owner be found. Also, to Zachery Barnes who held the door for students and teachers this morning upon arrival to the school - early morning kindness!!

Also, to Ms. Vey who helped coached the PeeWee hockey team in Twillingate this past weekend, attending to game strategies and jumping on the iced assisting those in need of attention. Coach Vey - a sign of greater things to come. Maybe with the St. John’s Maple Leafs ?
RECYCLING AT CLARENVILLE MIDDLE SCHOOL
We are doing our part at CMS to save the environment. Recycling your beverage containers reduces the amount of garbage being thrown into our dumps, but there is a lot more that can be done. We have been sponsoring a monthly recycling blitz which has received tremendous support. Parents/Guardians can also drop off recycling at the depot and sign the sheet to indicate that the money be added to the school’s account. These parents will be recognized in our next newsletter. Way to go to Parents and Students!
MIDDLE SCHOOL STUDENTS ON TELEVISION
We have always boasted of the talented middle school population and now we have even more cause to boast. Several students auditioned over the summer with hundreds of others for a television series with ‘Pope Productions’ . Stephen Goobie, Tony Carpenter and Shawn Bennett have been called back to act in a movie. Congratulations ! We’ll inform you when Gordie and Jimmy, characters in the series, struggle to overcome conflict in the setting of St. John’s. Can’t Wait!
