WEDNESDAY'S GROUP ENJOYS THEIR TIME WITH BABY SEAMUS             See Pictures

Feb. 28, 2008

Today was a very exciting day. Mr. Drover came in and we did 3 hours of First Aid Training. We certainly learned a lot to make sure that we can handle any medical emergency that comes along while we are babysitting. We also had pizza for supper during this session. Next week we will learn how to prevent accidents from happening and how to handle emergencies such as fire, nuisance phone calls and prowlers.

March 5 & 6

We are now nearly finished. Today we learned about keeping children safe by knowing how to prevent accidents. Did you know that most accidents with children occur in the home and most of them occur when the child is tired, hungry or thirsty or rushing around? We learned that children really need to be watched and as babysitters we need to make sure their environment is safe - no cords to pull down, no plastic bags around and keeping children away from the stove. We also learned what to do in a fire. Prowlers and nuisance phone calls can be annoying and scary, but we now know hot to handle them and other emergencies that may come up.

Next week is review time and then we will write our test.

Last week we learned how to deal with problems we may encounter when babysitting: a Crying Child, a shy child and a child who refuses to go to bed, colic and teething problems, nightmares. We also learned how to deal with behaviour problems: temper tantrums, power struggles, gifting and refusing to share toys. This week we will take a look at what to do in an emergency: break in, prowlers, fires, etc.

Our session was cancelled last week because of early shut down due to teacher meetings. This week we will take our practice test. Baby Seamus will hopefully visit and spend some time with us. If we have time we will start the session on "Getting Along with Kids". Be prepared to do some role playing. If you have a toy that you think Seamus may like to play with, bring it along.

TUESDAY, Feb. 5, 2008

I hope you all enjoyed your visit with Baby Seamus. He certainly seemed to enjoy his time with you. All of you did a great job on your practice test. As we did focused on toys for different age groups last week, we will this week examine all the topic we missed last week. "Getting Along With Kids". We will learn how to deal with a Crying Child, a shy child and a child who refuses to go to bed. We will also learn about colic and teething problems and nightmares. Some other problems that you may encounter that will also be addressed are: Temper tantrums, power struggles, gifting and refusing to share toys. BE PREPARED TO DO SOME ROLE PLAYING.

Last week we learned about foods that May Cause Choking. Hope you all enjoyed that delicious food we had. We also learned how to put a baby to bed—remember to make sure that your ask parents what the child’s routine is. We learned how important it was to be careful when giving medicine to children. We also learned what are good toys and games for children at different ages. This week we will take our practice test. Baby Seamus will hopefully visit and spend some time with us. If we have time we will start the session on "Getting Along with Kids". Be prepared to do some role playing.
