WELCOME BACK! September arrived very quickly - we hope you all enjoyed your summer holiday. Throughout the year you will receive a school newsletter - usually once per month. Be sure to read the newsletter carefully as it is a way of passing on important information to parents.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS

Every year we require the assistance of parents to run the Breakfast and Microwave Programs. Please give consideration to giving some of your time to help with these worthwhile ventures. A Parent Volunteer Slip has been sent home with each student.

TRADITIONAL MEALS AND SNACKS

We are encouraging healthy eating and healthy lifestyles. Please ensure your child brings nutritious snacks and lunches to school. Soft drinks are not permitted. The canteen will not be serving chocolate bars and potato chips.

MEET THE TEACHER / CURRICULUM NIGHT

We would like to invite all parents/guardians to attend our Curriculum Night scheduled for Wednesday,

September 13 at 7:00 p.m. It is important that all parents attend if at all possible.

TRINITY-CONCEPTION-PLACENTIA HEALTH FOUNDATION PENNY DRIVE

Yes, we will be collecting pennies for the annual Health Foundation Drive again this year which will be held on October 1st . Please notify Ms. Hamilton if you are able to help roll pennies.

NEWSLETTER ITEMS

Every month we celebrate student birthdays through the school PA system and in the monthly newsletter. We also celebrate student achievements in our newsletter - please use the achievement form sent home to notify us of your child's accomplishments. These are to be returned to your child's homeroom teacher.

HOLIDAY SCHEDULE 2006 - 2007

INDOOR / OUTDOOR FOOTWEAR

Once again this year we require all students to have 2 pairs of footwear - one for inside the school and one to wear outside.

MEDICATION

A reminder that staff members are not permitted to administer medication of any sort to students. Please do not send Tylenol or other medications to school with your child.

ALLERGIES

We have students in our school who have SEVERE allergies to PEANUTS and FISH. Please do not give your child/ren any peanut or fish products to bring to school.

STUDENT DROP OFF

Students who are dropped off and picked up at the school are asked to use the designated STUDENT WALKWAY. This is the safest route for students to enter and exit school grounds. The staff parking lot is not a safe route for students; only staff vehicles are permitted on the parking lot.

Students and parents are asked to be diligent in using the appropriate entrances to avoid congestion.

VISITORS TO THE SCHOOL

All visitors to the school must check in at the office before proceeding to a classroom. If you are picking your child up for lunch or after school please check in at the office first; it is not necessary to arrive at the school until just before dismissal times. It can be very distracting for students when parents wait outside their classroom for long periods of time.

During the first half of lunch break from 12:45 - 1:05 the following classes will eat in the gym:

Grade 1, Ms. Kennedy

Grade 2, Ms. Babb

Grade 1, Ms. Drodge

Grade 1. Ms. Cheeseman

Grade 3, Ms. Murphy

Grade 3, Ms. Tilley

During the second half of lunch from 1:05 - 1:25 the following classes will eat lunch in the gym:

Be sure to check this schedule if you are dropping off lunches for your child or if you are picking your child up.

Be sure to check this schedule carefully to ensure your child's lunch is here on time.

WE COLLECT!

Dominion Slips, Campbells Soup Labels and Heinz Baby Food Labels,

Recycling- containers will once again be placed in the lunch room and hallways. We recycle juice packs (and pop cans on special occasions).

PHYS. ED. REMINDER


Students and parents, remember to wear or bring proper exercise clothing for gym classes. Shorts, track pants, windpants, and sneakers are appropriate and necessary for good hygiene and safety. Please be advised that zipper and slip-on sneakers are potentially hazardous for most Physical Education activities.

Congratulations to Cherish Griffin, 3M for progressing to Level 3 in Swimming in August.

Congratulations to Cailey Snow, 3M who completed Level 6 Swimming in August.

Congratulations to Daniel McGrath, 3M who completed Level 4 Swimming in July.

Congratulations to Colin Rossieter, KT. Colin received a medal for playing Tee-Ball Baseball on August 17, received a medal for playing soccer on September 10, won Little Mr. Carbonear on August 3, and he earned an orange belt in Kenpo Karate during the summer as well.

Congratulations to Brady Earle, 1C who received the Sunfish Badge in Swimming in August.

Congratulations to Allie George, 4J who finished Brownies and is moving on to Guides. Allie is also going on to the second year of Jazz Dance class.

Congratulations to Alyssa Laing, 4J. Alyssa placed 3rd in the Fit Kid Triatalon for girls under 10 in August. She placed third for the girls All Star under 12 division "D" at the CBN Soccer Mega Tournament in CBS August 11 - 13, 2006. Alyssa also completed her fourth year of hockey with the boys novice and girls under 12 Cee Bees Minor Hockey teams in May 2006.

Congratulations to Shalyn Case, 4J who completed second year Brownies on May 23rd and has advanced to Guides. Shalyn also completed the Junior Naturalist Program and received a certificate and a prize at Terra Nova National Park on July 28, 2006.

Congratulations to Heather McGrath, 4J who completed Levels 5 & 6 in Swimming from June to August, 2006.

Congratulations to Dylan Hoben, 3T on receiving his Perfect Attendance award and earning the following badges from the CLB: Recruits, Christian Knowledge, Service, Agility, Cyclist and Achievement. Congratulations to Dylan for successfully completing his Level 4 in Swimming in June. Congratulations to Dylan also for receiving a Silver Medal in the Fit Kid Competition on July 30, 2006. Way to go Dylan!

Congratulations to Stacey Slade, 1D who was crowned Little Miss Carbonear on August 7, 2006.

Congratulations to Amy Gillingham, who completed Levels 3, 4 and 5 Swimming during the summer.

Congratulations to Cheyenne O'Grady, 5N who successfully completed Level 4 in Swimming and is going on to Level 5. Cheyenne also received the white belt in Kenpo Karate in June.

Congratulations to Mark Ryan, 3T. On September 9, 2006 the Germany Soccer team won the championship in the 10 and under age group. Mark scored in the semi-final game bringing his team to victory. Way to play hard, Mark!

Congratulations to Caitlin Burden, 2B who advanced from Sparks to Brownies in June 2006.
