Last evening we held our Kindergarten Graduation Ceremony and it truly was a delightful and memorable event. Our little graduates shone as they performed, partook in the grand march, and received their diplomas. Congratulations to our graduates: David Dalton, Chloe McGrath, Dylan Power, and Hailey Power. You made us all proud and you looked beautiful! A big thank you to their teacher Mrs. Carol Morrissey for an excellent job on organizing and running this wonderful event, and to other teachers and TWEP students who helped make this happen.
On Wednesday evening our Grade 7-12 students welcomed 38 students from St. Catherine's to what turned out to be the social event of the season for all involved. What a great time they all had at the basketball game (won by our ROYALS!), BBQ, and dance! Our visitors were highly impressed with our school and with the whole event.
Thanks to the Student Council for your role in planning this event, to all of the teachers who gave of their time to make it happen, to the band for an amazing job on the music, and to all of our students who attended and made St. Catherine's students feel so welcome.
Courses are winding down and exams are fast approaching, so check back soon for a final exam schedule. Also, check out the monthly calendar of events.
Police week runs from May 9th to the 15th. During that week, the RCMP will be participating in a series of events and activities within the community they serve. On Thursday, May 13th, members of the RCMP will take on the Fatima Royals Junior Boys team in a basketball game immediately after school. Come on out!
Note: Pre-schoolers and Kindergarten to Grade 3 children must be accompanied by an adult in order to attend the game, and Grade 4-6 students must have written permission from a parent in oder to stay for the game.
For the next five weeks, we will have five post-secondary students available at our school to tutor students after school. They will be available Monday to Thursday from 2:30 - 4:00 pm. Please notify the school if you want your child to receive tutoring to help with their regular school work, to review, and/or to prepare for final exams.
This coming Monday and Tuesday, May 10th and 11th, Fatima's teachers will be involved in professional development and as a result there will not be any classes for students on those two days. When classes resume on Wednesday it will be Day 8.
Enjoy your long weekend!
Next Friday, we will celebrate our annual Math Day. During that day, regular classes will go ahead, but Math will be incorporated appropriately into every subject area to reinforce the reality that Math is an essential part of all aspects of life, and to thereby promote its importance and value.
More details to follow...
On Thursday the world celebrated Earth Day and we at Fatima joined in. Along with our partners at Friends of Cape St. Mary’s, we ran a day of events and activities that highlighted the importance of caring for and protecting our world, while heightening our understanding of Science in general.
We extend our thanks to Friends of Cape St. Mary’s for joining with us in this initiative, to Mr. Peters, our school’s representative on that committee, and our other Science teachers – Ms. Burden and Mr. Ivany – for planning the sessions and putting together the day. Thank you also to all of our staff and support staff who enthusiastically took on the many roles asked of them during the day, and to all of the students who got into it and expressed their appreciation throughout the day. Complete details are in this weeks reporter.
Recently, Mrs. Carol Morrissey and Mrs. Cathy Careen have undertaken to establish a junior boys’ basketball team (Gr. 5-9) to give some of our younger basketball enthusiasts a chance to play their favourite game. We are delighted that two of our Level III students, Stephen Nash and Bradley Power, volunteered to help with coaching the team and to pass on the skills they have learned to the newly formed team. Yesterday evening, the team took to the court for the first time in a game against St. Anne’s and in no time at all began to gel as a team, improving with every period. By the fourth quarter it was anyone’s game, and at the final buzzer, it was St. Anne’s ahead by only two points to take the win. With a solid score of 56 to 54, our boys had reason to celebrate their strong showing in their first game together ever, and their young coaches and their supervisors had reason to be proud. Way to go, Royals!

Mr. Peters is currently setting up a virtual run across Canada - The Olympic Torch Relay Challenge through Recreation Newfoundland & Labrador's Small Steps, Big Results Campaign. He is challenging all Fatima students to
sign up and track their physical activity daily from now until the Olympics start in February.
All loggedactivities will be converted to kilometres on the project’s website and students will be able to monitor how far across the country from The Cape Shore to Vancouver they can get. The challenge is on to see if anyone can
actually make it all the way. For most of our students the project will not mean any extra physical activity as we
have a very active student population anyway. This will just be a fun and competitive way to keep track of what
you are already doing.
Visit www.recreationnl.com/smallstepsbigresults to get complete details and join the challenge! Register and join the Fatima Royals team (password is royals).
