Welcome to Angel's Cove's
Business Community
-
As you read in the brief introduction for Angel's Cove there
-
are several businesses here. There is a small convenience
-
store owned by Eva Coffey. It serves the basic needs of the
-
people in the community and tourists who are passing
-
through. The store has everything from chips, ice cream,
-
canned goods, drinks, and baked goods to gas pumps.
-
Farming is quite popular here. Two families have fox farms,
-
each with about two hundred or more foxes. Another
-
family has worked hard over the past years to clear a fair
-
sized pasture. They have some cows there now and are again
-
working to increase the size of their herd. Then there are
-
personal farms, where people set their gardens, and have a
-
few animals, just for personal pleasure.
-
-
One of the larger farms in Angel's Cove is
-
"Valley View Farms" owned by Florence Coffey. This is one
-
of Newfoundland's first Emu farms, and the first to have
-
an emu hatch. They began with only 2 emu but this number
-
quickly began to grow, and continues to do so today, they
-
now have about 30. This being the second largest bird in the
-
world draws quite a crowd, but it doesn't end there. They
-
alsohave an ostrich here, the largest bird in the world. You
-
don't have to be told what a great tourist attraction that is in
-
itself.
-
-
Both the emu and ostrich are a great source of red meat
-
that is low in fat, and is extremely tender.
-
Then they have smaller animals such as ducks, geese, etc., in
-
addition to a big U-pick strawberry farm. Obviously there is a
-
promising career in farming in Angel's Cove.
