FISHING TIME
By: Ernestine O'Rourke
If you're from St. Mary's Bay
And it's getting up in May
Then you know what all the fussing is about
The young ones and the old
To the ‘Gut' they proudly stroll
And long liners are made ready to go out.
The Point Lance crowd are here
With all their fishing gear
George and Benedict and the boys are all about,
Val and Clarence in the boat
Trying hard to make her float
And Kevin to the Hare's Ears tries her out.
Oh, they leave the pond each day
To the Cape ground sail away,
And work all day in wind and rain and cold
When they come in with their catch
Standing proudly on the deck
You'd swear the fish they're carrying are gold.
Ernest Rourke and Rube are here
They've been fishing many years
Just ask them anything about the 'Kays'
Freddie Roche will make you laugh
Uncle Mike tells of the past
When they caught them bigger than they are today.
When the boats have all come in
And the Plant is in full swing
And everyone is in each others way
The women and the men
Thank the Lord for sending them
His blessing down in Branch, St. Marys Bay.
