NEWFOUNDLAND  COAT OF ARMS



HISTORICAL INFORMATION

In 1637 the Newfoundland Coat of Arms was granted by King Charles I of England and Scotland.

SHIELD

The shield has a red back ground with a silver cross similar to the Arm of the Knights of St. John. Also in the shield there are to golden lions wearing the crown of Great Britain.There are also two silver unicorns in the shield which repersent the Royal Arms of England and Scotland.
 

CREST

Above the shield there is a ''CREST'' which has an elk standing on a red and gold wreath.

SUPPORTERS

Two Beothuk Indians stand with bows and arrows, and shields. These were once the native people of Newfoundland and  Labrador.

MOTTO

The MOTTO is located below the shield and it says Quaerite Prime Regnum Dei which is latin for Seek First the Kingdom of God.
