British Columbia is Canada's westernmost province and one of North America's most mountainous regions.  The capital of British Columbia is Victoria. Also, 17.9 percent of the people in British Columbia live in rural areas and 82.1 percent or the people live in urban places. Most of the people's homes are on beautiful land, some of the people's homes are covered with blankets of snow with an extraordinary site of the Rocky Mountains. The province's motto is a beautiful one, " Splendor without diminishment."
It also joined Confederation on July 20, 1871.

The Rocky Mountains are big but the land of B.C. is a lot bigger, 948,527 square meters cover this beautiful terrain. British Columbia's highest point is at Fairweather Mountain at 4663 meters high and the lowest point is at the Pacific Ocean at sea level and the water area of all British Columbia is 6997 square miles.

Did you know that British Columbia is the gateway to Asia and to the Pacific??

The history of how British Columbia came to be is very interesting. James Cook was a fur trader and traded fur with the Indians and became to be a big job for everyone looking for trades.  As the trading went on, British traders became interested in the trade. A lot of this trading went on in a place called Vancouver Island but it was very hard to get to. George Vancouver surveyed the coast and found a safe route to Vancouver Island.  As a result of the trade, people now live in British Columbia with a great history to reflect on.

The climate  is a mild and wet at times, but also can be a cold and an icy climate that changes a lot from time to time, it s snows a lot and rains quite often too. It snows 55cm in a year and rains 1150 ml in the run of a year. There's a lot of wind too. Some unfriendly gales called tornados can be devastating to British Columbia. The temperatures change with time too. It's always below zero in Fall and Winter and always above zero in Summer and Spring.

Did you know that the average family income is $59,632?

The economy is very important to British Columbia. It's top rated in military for Canada and is one of the richest provinces. Many people in B.C. work either in the military, business, or the very popular, lumber trade.  About three-fifths of Canada's lumber comes British Columbia. Also, 75% of the people living in British Columbia were born in Canada and 15% were born outside Canada.

As you can see in the economy, jobs mean a lot, so education counts in B.C. There are lots of schools so every child can attend school. When they graduate, they can have a couple of choices of different Universities. British Columbia's University of Contents comes out as the most popular place. It was built in 1915 and offers so many careers of  your choice. Students often choose business, engineering and lumber work. Lumber work is chosen most because it offers good money and is a great job.

Sports are very popular too. The Vancouver Canucks are one of the top teams in the NHL and bring in the crowd since they are  ranked the top sports team in British Columbia. The B.C. lions are very much stars of the province also, and  it's the only football team in B.C.

British Columbia is an amazing place. Some amazing tourist destinations are Stanley Park; Barkerville, a beautiful park; Fort Steele, the passage way to Alaska and is absolutely amazing. There are so many cozy places in British Columbia. British Columbia seems to be the place to go and I really hope someday that I can experience this wonderful place of Canada.
