Manitoba          

 

    Manitoba is a prairie land. It is located in the middle of Canada. The population of Manitoba is about 1,119,583. The climate is cold winters and warm summers. The capital of Manitoba is Winnipeg. Some major cities and towns are: Winnipeg, Brandon, Selkirk, and Dauphin. The world's best collections of Eskimo art are found in Manitoba. Manitoba is a very interesting province.

    Some activities in Manitoba are CFL Football and Hockey. Hockey is the most popular sport in Manitoba. Some outdoor activities are forestry, fur trapping, mining and fishing. Manitoba has a variety of exciting activities.

   The names of some universities or colleges are Brandon University, St. Johns College, St. Paul's College, and Winnipeg University. Most post secondary universities and colleges are in Winnipeg. They first started setting up schools by churches. All schools were Roman Catholic. The law in Manitoba is all children between the age of seven and sixteen must attend school.

   The major religion in Manitoba is Roman Catholic. The Roman Catholic church has about 294,000 members. In Manitoba there are other Religions such as Ukrainian Catholic and Lutherans and Pentecostals.

   Visitors to Manitoba can enjoy many tourist destinations. Some of the tourist destinations are the Winnipeg Ballet , the National Ukrainian Festival in Dauphin and The Dog Derby during the Trappers Festival.    Other destinations are Centennial Center, Fort Prince of Whales, International Peace Garden, Lower Fort Garry, Manitoba Agricultural Museum and Homesteaders Village, Mennonite Heritage Village, Spirit Sands, as well as National and Provincial Parks. 

    Manitoba has variety of food. They mostly have farm foods. In Manitoba there are a lot of vegetarian Restaurants because of all the farms. They have a lot of fast food restaurants too. Most of the fast food restaurants are in Winnipeg.  

    Fifty percent of Manitoba is forest. It contains: trees, white and black spruce, balsam fur, and Jack pine. Prairie land is found in the south-west where the natural vegetation is grass. Manitoba has a great vegetation. 

    Indians were the first to explore Manitoba. People settled in Manitoba for hunting and fur trade. Sir Thomas Button and the crew on his ship were the first white people in Manitoba. Button reached Hudson Bay in 1612.
