Nova Scotia                                 

    Nova Scotia is a province in Canada.  Nova Scotia  is a very nice place.  The capital of Nova Scotia is Halifax which is very beautiful and one of the largest cities in Nova Scotia.  Nova Scotia time is 30 minutes behind Newfoundland time. The population of Nova Scotia is 942700. Nova Scotia has one of the largest populations in Canada. 

     The activities of Nova Scotia are  playing basketball, baseball, soccer, and football. They also do hiking, skiing, and sliding. 

     Nova Scotia's first Education Act was passed in 1766. There are 12 grades and they also have Kindergarten and Pre school. They study  math, language, science, social studies, health, religion, and French. They also have gym.

     They do have alot of fish because it is a very good place for fishing.

      In 1605, Nova Scotia  began the European settlement.  In this year, a group of French colonists founded  Port Royal.  In 1629, the first British settlers came.  In the 1700's Great Britain won control of Nova Scotia from France.  The capital of Nova Scotia has been the capital since 1749.  In 1750, settlers from Britain and other parts of the western Europe began coming to Nova Scotia in increasing numbers.  In 1820's, people had begun to refer Nova Scotians as the Bluenosers. The nick name came from the locally-grown blue potatoes.  Today  Nova Scotians still call themselves Bluenosers.

     Here are some interesting facts about Nova Scotia. No part of Nova Scotia is more than 35 miles from the sea. The ocean tides may go to the highest in Nova Scotia than anywhere else in the world. Sometimes the tides go up to 50 feet (15m)high. At the Bay of Fundy, sailors called Stable Island "the graveyard of the Atlantic"  because there was so many ship-wrecks. The sea keeps the climate from becoming either to hot or to cold. The Annapolis-Cornwallis Valley, is famous for growing pink and  white apple blossoms. The Latin word Nova Scotia means New Scotland.
