We finally reached the community of Patrick's Cove,
located on the Cape Shore. This community is said to
be the most beautiful place on the shore. Patrick's Cove
was a fishing community on the Cape Shore. Patrick's
Cove is built on both sides of a steep river valley which
frames a small harbour. This was a great contrast to the
grassy marshlands that supported sheep,
goats, horses and
cows in neighouring communities. The
cove and the community
were originally known as Devil's Cove. It was renamed
in about
1840, reportedly after a grandson of the first settler. In
1857
there were 29 people in Patrick's Cove. From then
on the population gradually increased, approaching 100
people by 1921. Many people have
noted the strong Irish
ties and roots of
Patrick's Cove. So come follow me and
we will tour
Patrick's Cove together.
