ATTRACTIONS
The Beach
One of the most popular tourist attractions on the Cape
Shore is the Point Lance
Beach. This beach contains an
entire mile of soft, fine, sand. Point Lance is well known
across the province for
the picturesque scene of the beach.
Tilts
Years ago, the fish landing grounds in Point Lance were
situated about
one mile from the main community and for
this reason the fishermen
built small one room buildings
called 'tilts' which
they equipped with a stove, bunks, table
and chairs. It was
here that most of the
fishermen lived
from Monday to Saturday
during the fishing season, rather
than walk back and forth
every day. The women would
help with the curing of the
fish but rarely stayed
overnight
at the tilts. In recent years,
with the construction of a road
to this section of the community
and with the increased
number of motor vehicles, its no longer necessary
for the
men to use the tilts in this way. 1966 was last year that
the tilts were used for overnight accomodations by
the men of Point Lance.
Unfortunately, the last of the
remaining tilts have been torn
down just a few years ago.
Nevertheless, this landmark is still
known as the "tilts".
Bull, Cow, and Calf
Another attraction in Point Lance is the Bull, Cow, and
Calf. These are rocks
are located out in the ocean yet,
visible to the residents
of this community. Due to the
unique structure and size
of these rocks, many years ago
early settlers gave them the title
of "Bull, Cow, and Calf."
This title still remains today.
