Industry and Economy

The main industry in Point Lance is the fishery.  About
80% of the communities income is from the fishery. In
addition to being fishermen, some people have continued
on with farming.  A lot of the farming that is done is for
personal use but the sale of the cattle is a great boost to a
family's income. In Point Lance, there are approximately
200 sheep.  Furthermore,  vegetables are also grown for
                            personal use.

In concluding, Point Lance has a very strong sense of
community and a fierce sense of pride and loyalty to its
residents.  Although it has endured difficult times with the
fishery, there is a determination to continue with the fishery
either through diversification or through whatever means
necessary.  Because those involved in the fishery are fairly
young, this might account for their energy and determination
to succeed.  One thing which is very obvious in the
community is their refusal to even consider the possibility
of ever having to resettle.  People are very contented with
their way of life in Point Lance and are very eager to return
to a full time cod fishery.  People are starting to become
very restless and are eager to do what they have been doing
                            for the last 200 years.
