Over the last several years many of our relatives have left
home and never returned.
Consequently, this past year,
1998-1999, the communities
of St. Bride's and Cuslett have
organized a Come Home
Year in 1999.
Running from August 6 - 15 of 1999, the Come Home Year
Celebrations saw thousands of former residents return to
the beautiful Cape Shore. Over the ten days, visitors and
entertainers alike were treated to old friends, old jokes, and
a lot of laughing.
From headline performers like "The Fables"
and "Celtic Connection" to hometown acts like "The
O'Rourkes", there was something there for all to enjoy.
Performers weren't everything
though, as even the venues
were something to gawk at.
From the beautiful Bird Rock at
Cape St. Mary's to the majestic
and peaceful Cuslett Brook,
the sites were absolutely breath-taking.
The day-time activities were just as thrilling, with bed races,
old-fashioned Garden Parties, and even a Santa Claus Parade
in the middle of August.
It was something to remember, and
will not soon be forgotten
in Cuslett and St. Bride's. As the
song "Emoc Emoh",
written by Cuslett's own Eddie Coffey
goes:
"Come Home Year we should all be together,
For a great old time despite all the weather,
'Cause it's Come Home Year in Cuslett and St. Bride's"
