CAP (Community Access Program) provides funding to
participating communities who want to set up and run a public Internet access site. CAP was first established in 1995 by Industry Canada, a department of the federal government. In 1998 both the federal and provincial government
signed an agreement that led to the creation of the Canada/Newfoundland and Labrador Community Access Program (CNL-CAP). The federal government partner in CAP is still Industry Canada. However, the provincial government partner,
the Department of Education, administers CNL-CAP. The CAP Centre here in Chapel Arm and throughout other communities in Newfoundland and Labrador offers many benefits to the public. Some of the benefits include: - Allowing
the public who may not have a computer or Internet access at home the opportunity to learn about and use Information Technology. - Providing on-line access to government programs and services. - Providing a CAP Intern to assist
and help the public use different types of technology such as the Internet, Scanners, Digital Cameras, and Computer Programs (Microsoft Word, Power Point, etc..) The public should take advantage of CAP Sites and what
they have to offer. To find out more about CAP and its locations throughout Newfoundland and Labrador visit the following web site. |

CAP is involved in many partnershipswith departments and agencies throughout Newfoundland and Labrador which are a major factor in its success. Just this year CAP had another partner join its team, Envision.ca, a virtual resource centre which has much to offer the voluntary sector of people throughout the communities of Newfoundland and Labrador. |
