Background
The Elementary Science Program consists of twelve science topics to be covered over three years, with four topics to be completed at each grade level. Since there are two authorized texts for these topics , the following order of topics does not reflect the order in which they must be done.
Rationale
The science curriculum, as defined in the defined in the Foundation for the Atlantic Canada Science Curriculum is aimed at enabling students to become scientifically literate. To develop scientific literacy students require diverse learning experiences which provide opportunity to explore, analyze, evaluate, synthesise, appreciate, and understand the interrelationships among science, technology, society, and the environment that will affect their personal lives, their careers, and their future.
