The evening of December 14th was a time of celebration and festivities at Holy Trinity High, Heart's Content, with an exceptionally high number of students from Heart's Delight-Islington to Winterton receiving academic awards and various awards of achievement for the 1997-98 school year. The auditorium was filled to capacity as Holy Trinity show-cased some of its finest with 51 students receiving recognition for achievement in drama, sports and academics, highlighted by the Governor-General's Award for the top student overall. The evening also included entertainment from the talented members of the drama club and the Holy Trinity Music Club. The principal, Mr. Roger Gillingham, gave the opening remarks. Mistress of Ceremonies for the evening was Sabrina Green, a level lll student and student council president. Many representatives from various groups, organizations and businesses were present for the evening to present awards they have sponsored. The evening began with the Royal Canadian Legion awards of Top Honours presented to students from grades 8, 9, and levels l and ll. This was followed by a drama club presentation. Other academic and achievement awards were presented followed by a music club selection. A twenty minute intermission and social, arranged by the Challenging needs class, then gave the audience an opportunity to congratulate some of the award winners and meet school personnel. More drama and musical performances followed the intermission as well as more award presentations, the final one being the coveted Governor-General's Award presented by the principal, Mr. Gillingham. This was followed by entertainment by the Holy Trinity drama club. The national anthem as well as piano solos were performed by Miss Jo Jo Leung of our school. The evening was deemed a success by all. The staff and students wish to thank the many sponsors, parents and general public for their support and interest and cordially invite the general public and especially former students to " drop in " any time and chat with the students and staff.
