School was open this morning only for those writing exams. The town water was scheduled to be turned off at 9 AM. No decision could be taken to open the school for afternoon classes until after lunch: by then it was too late. But high-school exams continued unabated.

A full day of school for everyone K-12. The temperatures were a surprise too: +2 in the morning, -20 in the afternoon, and windy. Running water all day: how pleasant!

Our elementary grades participated in their second Achievements Assembly of the year on January 31st. This was a chance for elementary teachers to recognize their students who were Perfect Attenders and Star Students for the months of December and January. We are very proud of all of our students for their efforts and great work. Congratulations!

Exams began today for Grade 8-12 students. Regular classes were held K-7 in the morning. The town's water was AGAIN scheduled to be turned off four hours beginning at 1 pm, so while 8-12 exams continued in the afternoon as scheduled, afternoon classes K-7 were cancelled. Despite the water issues, "Homework Haven" was held as usual in the Library 3-4 pm for any Grade 8-12 student who wanted a quiet place to study with teacher support. This after-school study plan has been ongoing daily since the beginning of this school year, and the previous year as well.

Despite the town's water being turned off in the morning as scheduled, and classes in the lower grades being cancelled because of this, regular high school classes were held both morning and afternoon, special water arrangements having been planned and implemented. The town's water was turned on again in the early afternoon, but not soon enough to announce afternoon classes K-9, so there were none. Study Cafe was held again in the evening 7:00 to 8:30 for high school students wishing more help from their subject teachers.
January 28, 2008
It was announced this afternoon that the town's water would be shut off tomorrow between 9am and 1pm and therefore the schools would remain closed all morning. However, because the high school would be starting exams on the 30th, all efforts would be made to hold high school classes all day, with bottled water to drink, hand-gel to cleans hands, and facilities kept working by attentive maintenance staff. Announcements would be made on the radio regarding afternoon classes K-9.

Today the school was in full operation with classes for K-12 morning and afternoon. The wind chill was still in the -30 range, cold, but a lot more manageable than -45C.
January 23, 2008
We were able to open the school this morning for grades 4-12 and by noon the temperatures had risen enough to open the Primary School as well. So in the afternoon there were classes for all. After school the teachers played the students in a game of ball-hockey. The teachers won with a score of 15-12.
January 22, 2008
There was no school for anyone today because of the severe cold. It was a bright sunny day, but very windy. The sun set an hour later that it did a month ago.
January 21, 2008
There was no school today for K-7. The windchill was -45C. Similar weather is expected Tuesday.
