Grand Falls-Windsor weather forecast

February 13, 2005: Sunday's activities are cancelled due to the impending heavy snowfall warning. The weather has been playing havock with this weekend's activities. The rain and mild temperatures have cut the snow. Friday night's activities were cancelled. Saturday's activities were very low key.

February 9, 2005: The skidoo and groomer have been busy. All trails were groomed and a track set today.

February 6, 2005: Next weekend, as you probably know, will be Winterlude here in Grand Falls-Windsor. During the weekend the Ski Club will be sponsoring some activities at the trail on Scott Avenue.

Friday night we will be having a Moonlight Ski. Actually it won't be a full moon but we have several dozen torches that we use to light the 1.5 km trail. It's always a great time! We'll have tea, coffee, timbits & homemade soup and good company.

On Saturday we'll have tea, coffee & tim bits at the trail and club members available to provide ski instruction.

On Sunday afternoon we'll have family skiing and, for the kids, we'll have our annual scavenger hunt. We'll have loot bags for participants this year and if the weather cooperates I'm sure it will be a lot of fun.

We will also have someone available all weekend to give membership receipts and Ski Club tags for your jacket.

The skidoo had electrical problems on Friday. Parts were ordered and will be in on Monday. With the rain on Saturday the trail is VERY dangerous. We suggest that you stay off the trail until the groomer can break up the crust, pack the trail and set fresh tracks again. Updates when we have them.

===============

Feb 3, 2005: The trail has been groomed today, Thursday. All trails groomed. All in good shape.

January 27, 2005: A crew was at the trail today and packed each of the loops. They were able to set a track around the 7.5km loop. They will return tomorrow to finish packing the trail and setting a track. Should be great for the weekend. Happy skiing!

January 23, 2005: The 2.5 trail was groomed on Friday. There isn't much snow. The 2.5 km trail was cleaned up this fall with an excavator. So with this improvement the groomer was able to pack the snow on this trail but there wasn't enough snow to set a track. A few members have been around the 2.5km trail and report that it is is adequate but skippery in spots.

The longer trails do not have enough snow to use the groomer but the skidoo was able to make a couple of runs to help pack the snow that is there.

Hopefully we'll get more snow soon to allow us to groom the trail properly. The hut is currently open and heated 7 days a week. Thanks to a grant again this year we are able to have workers cutting brush, getting wood and doing general maintenance. The workers are at the hut every day until 4 or 4:30.

The Ski Hut will be open and nice and cozy for all skiers on Saturdays and Sundays. Tea and hot chocolate will be available. Please bring your own mug. Bring your skis and a lunch. Come and enjoy but please leave your pets at home.
