Our Language Arts Policy states:

  1. A concerted effort will be made to create a stimulating environment which will encourage students to use and produce a wide variety of language.

  2. A learning environment will be fostered where students will feel free to take risks.

  3. The learning environment wil foster positive self-esteem

  4. The program will include all components of the language arts (listening, speaking, reading, and writing).

  5. The program will address the fact that lantguage instruction permeates all area of the curriculum.

  6. The program will make provisions for deficits students may have acquired during the process of language acquisition.

  7. The Language Arts program will be literature-based.

  8. Instruction will emphasize utilization of language that is whole, meaningful, and relevant.

  9. Instruction will take into account the student's level of develepment as well as the student's own particular learning style.

  10. An eclectic approach will be taken in instruction in the language arts.

  11. Evaluation will be continuous, as positive as possible, and include a variety of data-collection techniques (observations, portfolios, journals, tests, etc.)

  12. Students will be expected to become increasingly involved in self-evaluation.

  13. Students will be expected to become actively involved in all stages of language development.

  14. Students will be given adequate opportunity to collaborate.

  15. Teachers will be good role models of all aspects of the language arts.

  16. Teachers will have high expectations for student achievement and development.

  17. Teacher will try to keep abreast of current trends in the process of language acquisition.
