Principal's Message

Despite the fact that we are located on the outskirts of some of the communities we service, New World Island East Elementary has always been a focal point. By drawing together students and parents our school has earned the reputation of being a community in itself. Visitors to our school are always struck by the sense of comradeship among staff and students.

Parent volunteers are one of our distinguishing characteristics. Parents are not visitors to our school - they are part of it and are here on a daily basis - warming lunches, assisting teachers or supporting in some other manner.

We are proud of our pre-school program which has grown out of our long-term commitment to family literacy. For many years our school spearheaded early intervention programs which are so necessary in rural Newfoundland.

We are presently working towards making our school even better. We feel that the school improvement process that we are currently undergoing will fine tune the sound academic program that we have already put into place.

Our students are community-minded, eager learners. They enjoy easy access to our well- equipped computer room and are becoming "computer literate" at a very young age.

Statistics show that students from New World Island East Elementary who have attended our local high school are among the top of their class in all areas from academics to sports to community involvement.

New World Island East Elementary provides an atmosphere where the whole child is valued and where every attempt is made to meet each child's individual needs. Our school is one where parents are not only welcomed, but indeed invited to participate in their children's learning.
