Sid was born in Botwood and was raised in the town of Lewisporte where he received his early education. He then attended Memorial University where he majored in English Literature and minored in French and Psychology. After completing his studies at Memorial, Sid went on to do further studies at St. Pierre, Quebec, and New Brunswick. Soon after receiving his B.A.(Ed.) he began teaching in the communities of Newville and Summerford, where he has taught music and french for the past 22 years. Sid and his wife, Sheri, live in Hillgrade and have three daughters Emily(11 years), Kate(15 years), and Sandy(16 years). Sid devotes quite a bit of his spare time to the Herring Neck United Church, Island Blades Figure Skating Club and the local Allied Youth. Aside from his volunteer work Sid enjoys theater, music and movies.
