On May 21st our Painted Lady larvae arrived. They were all in little containers. We watched them very carefully with our magnifying glasses. They kept EATING and GROWING, EATING and GROWING, EATING and GROWING!
After about 10 days we saw chrysalides starting to appear. We used velcro to attach the lids to our butterfly house. The larvae stayed in their chrysalides for about another week, then they started to emerge as adult butterflies! It was so exciting to watch! The chrysalis would start to shake and the butterfly would slowly push it's way out. It would stay on it's chrysalis for about an hour while it's wings dried out. Then it started to fly! Each day we would watch as new butterflies emerged! We released the first 21 butterflies on Friday, June 11th. Then on June 16th we released the last two butterflies. Take a look at the super pictures!
