Peacock Elementary
   School Lunch Program

A brown bag lunch is available each day for children, who for various reasons are without a lunch on any particular day. The lunch is from a varied menu that provides foods from the four food groups found in Canada's Food Guide. The menu is approved by a dietician. Children, who require a lunch, go to the main office to pick one up.

Each classroom has a basket which contains non-perishable, nutritious food items and juice boxes. These items are available to children who need their own lunch supplemented as well as those who don't have recess.

This is an universal program, open to every child in the school. It is designed to assist children and their families during difficult times. eg. just before paydays when family resources are stretched or when a child forgets his lunch on the bus. The program is support and not intended to take over parental responsibilities.

Funding for this program is provided by a grant from "Kids Eat Smart" as well as local support from Kinsmen, Kinettes, staffs of Terrington Co-op and Peacock Elementary, Salvation Army, German Airforce, Labatts 24 Hour Relay, Steve's Plumbing, Mesher Family, and IODE.

The program runs on a volunteer basis with teacher Mrs. Paula Dawe as the coordinator.
