Sea Turtles





        This type of turtle is the heaveist of all the turtles. Most sea turtles weigh over hundreds of pounds!
        Sea turtles live in oceanswhere the water is never very cold. In this type of water the sea turtle only face danger from human beings, and sharks.
        Sea turtles spend most of their lives in the ocean. However the females only come ashore to nest. the female turtle usually nest at night. The female crawls from the ocean and sets her nest on the dark beach.
        Sea turtles protect their bodies by a hard shell. the turtles on land, and in fresh water can hide their heads, but however sea turtles cannot. They have very large shoulder mucles, so they could have enough power for their front flippers. Their mucles are to large for their head to fit inside their shell.
    There are many different types of sea turtles. Here are a few names of sea turtle: Hawksbill, Loggerhead, Olive Ridley, Kemp's Ridley, Leather Back, and the Flatback. The only sea turtle who nests in large amounts are the Loggerhead who lives in the United States.
    The largest sea turtle although would be the Leatherback. There was once a 1,500 pound Leatherback sea tutle found!Loggerheads usually weigh any where between 170-350 pounds. Ridley turtles are the smallest sea turtle, which weighs 80 pounds.
    Sea turltles are usually found in the ocean north of New Jersey. Then on the Pacific coast they swim north of Caloiforina. They usually nest by North and South of Carolina, Georgia, and Florida.
    Did you know that all sea turtles don't eat thye same thing!The Leatherbacks mainly eat jellyfish. Loggerheads also eat jellyfish, put prefer animals that live in shell's. The Hawksbill turtles eat only marine plants, but sometimes animal life.
    When the female turtle lays her nests she usually lays about 110 eggs. The sea trurtle babies hatch about 10 weeks after they are laid.Each baby turtle is the size of a silver dollar. As soon as they are born they race to the sea.
