Principal’s Message

April brings us into the last quarter of the school year.  With school, district, and provincial assessments on the horizon, we ask for your continued cooperation in helping students keep up with the demands of the school curriculum.  Let’s start now to ensure we have a strong finish to the school year.

Easter break begins on April 22nd, with students returning to school on Monday, May 2nd.  I wish all staff and students a safe and enjoyable break!

Frank Humber

Principal

Kinderstart

The fifth Kinderstart session for this year will take place on Monday, April 18th.  There will not be any classes that day for our current kindergarten students.

A Few Reminders

1.  Morning supervision begins at 8:00 am.

2. Keep your child dressed warmly; we go outside for recess and lunch when it is dry.

3.  If you change your phone number or address, please let the school know.

4.  Please do not park on the sidewalk on Allen’s Road when dropping off or picking up students.

April Assembly

Our Grade Two students and their teachers are busy planning for the Easter assembly.  We would love to see as many parents as possible on April 21st at 8:45am to celebrate with us.

Grade 5 Swimming

There are two (2) sessions scheduled for April in the Grade 5 Swimming Program:

April 5th   and April 12th

There will also be a number of sessions planned for May.  Parents are reminded this is a required component in the Grade 5 Physical Education program.

Allergies

We remind you we have students at our school with a severe, life-threatening allergy to products containing nuts.  It is therefore necessary to ban all food products containing traces of nuts.  Please cooperate fully with this request!

We also have one child in our school who is allergic to pure cinnamon.  Please be aware of this as you prepare any food item to send to school.

Science Showcase

All elementary students will be participating in a Science Showcase in our school.  Science projects will be set up in the school for viewing on April 19th.  We also hope to have a guest speaker and science presentations for the students.

Parents are invited to come and see the projects after lunch (12:30 – 1:45) on that day.

Share Their Successes!

If your child receives some kind of award or is involved in something significant outside the school, we’d love to share it with the rest of the school.  Please call us or drop a line and we’ll make it part of our morning announcements.  Please have your child bring their announcement to the office first thing in the morning!

Your Fundraising Efforts

Thanks for your efforts with fundraising this year.  The school council and the school administration do their best to balance the demands placed on students and their parents for fundraising with the resource demands in our classrooms and school.  This year, as a result of the vegetable sale, Christmas concerts, and the sale of toothbrushes, we have been able to purchase over $2000.00 worth of classroom library books, invest in more Smart Boards for the classrooms,  renew our  computer lab with 23 computers, continue to support healthy living activities outside the school such as  swimming, skating, and bowling, continue to host a wonderful Christmas dinner, and provide resources for our breakfast program.

Books, Books, and more Books

Thanks for your support of our book drive.  We asked that parents clean their shelves of books their children no longer read and you answered the call.  We collected over 700 books in three days.  These will be added to classroom libraries.

Scholastic Warehouse Sale

Mrs. Grandy and Ms. Skanes are continuing their promotion of reading in our school by hosting a Scholastic Warehouse Sale on April 5th and 6th.  The sale will run during regular school hours and students will have an opportunity to make purchases. The great part about this warehouse sale is the book prices are 50% off the listed cover prices.

 Recycling

Thanks to parent Bill Skeard who continues to help us with our recycling program.

We appreciate the donations of recyclables from many of you and ask you to take note of the following if you are dropping off recyclables either here at the school or to the depot.  The recycling depot has advised us of the following regulations/requirements:

~Depot workers have the right to REFUSE contaminated beverage containers (liquids or food found in them).

~All straws and stopper caps are to be REMOVED BEFORE bottles/containers are brought to the depot.

Thank you in advance for your consideration and support of our recycling program.

Breakfast Program

Thanks to all the volunteers, including Mrs. Park and Mme. Willett, who continue to keep the breakfast program rolling along.  The breakfast program is a popular spot in the morning for students to chat and grab a quick bite to eat.

School Council

The next meeting of the Sacred Heart School Council will be April 14th, at 7:00pm.  If you have an item that you would like discussed, please contact Mr. Bill Dennis or the school administration.

SCHOOL SOCCER

Our school will be competing in city school soccer tournaments.  We are hosting the girl’s tournament here at Sacred Heart on May 13th and 14th.
