Principal’s Message

The first two months of the school year are in the books; the staff at Sacred Heart Elementary wants to thank you for your support as we create meaningful learning opportunities for your child.   November is an important month for assessing your child’s progress in school to date.  Assessment takes place almost every day in your child’s classroom; the November report is a summation of all the assessments that have taken place to date.

As this is November and Remembrance Day will be celebrated very shortly, we extend the invitation to all parents, grandparents and guardians to attend our Remembrance Day Assembly scheduled for Tuesday, November 10th at 8:45 a.m.  This assembly will be led by Mrs. Bursey-Foo’s and Ms. Dimmer’s Grade Four classes.

See you there!

Frank Humber

Principal

Phase 2 Reporting & Parent Interviews

November brings phase two of the evaluation and reporting process which will involve both a written report and a parent interview to discuss the report.  Reports will go out to parents on Tuesday, November 17th.  Prior to receiving the report, parents will receive a memo asking them to indicate when they are available for an interview on November 19th, afternoon or evening.  In order to accommodate these interviews, all students will be dismissed as of 12:00 noon on Thursday, November 19th.  These interviews will last fifteen minutes and are designed to discuss concerns the home or school may have and to set goals to work towards over the remainder of the year.

These interviews are extremely important and all parents are asked to please attend.  We also ask for your cooperation in scheduling these appointments.  A concentrated effort from both home and school will be required to accommodate this scheduling effort.

Student Absences

The end of October seemed to bring an increase in the number of student absences.   We anticipate the same trend as we enter the early weeks of November.  We appreciate your efforts to contact the school when your child is out of school for some reason.  The school has to contact the homes of the absent children to determine the reason for the absence; it makes it much easier when parents make contact with the school.

Please continue to follow the recommendations of healthcare providers with respect to when to keep your child at home.  Additionally, the Department of Education website has some information that parents might find useful when determining whether or not a child should be attending school.

Close-Outs

There will not be any classes for students in the afternoon of Thursday, November 19th as there will be parent – teacher interviews that afternoon.

A Healthy Living Day is planned for November 26th.  Students will attend an activity outside of school, either swimming or skating.

There will be no classes for Kindergartens only on Friday, November 20.  Mrs. Staples will be hosting Kinderstart sessions on that day.

Book Fair BookLust.jpg image by simonthedude

We will be holding a book fair from November 17th to 19th.  This will be a great opportunity to purchase some quality children’s books at very reasonable prices.  Books are a great idea for Christmas gifts.  Please consider volunteering a couple of hours.  More information to follow.

Christmas Events

In order to give you plenty of time to make arrangements, our Primary Christmas Concert will be held on Tuesday, December 15th at 7:00 pm.  Kindergartens will be featured separately that night, while students in Grades One to Three will be presenting their annual musical.

The elementary division will be presenting their musical on Thursday, December 17th at 7:00 pm.

We are pleased to announce that our Christmas Concerts will take place in our own school gymnasium this year.

Dress for the Choir members in both concerts is white top with black pants, dress or skirt (skort). Black dress shoes are preferred, though not essential. NO HIGH HEELS, PLEASE.

Kindergartens are asked to wear their "Sunday Best".

Our Annual Christmas Dinner has been scheduled for Monday, December 21st.
