Student Drop off and Pick up Policy

September 2010

Student Drop off in am

Homeroom begins at 8:15 am..  Students should be in their homerooms by that time.  Children who arrive late are missing valuable classroom morning routines and instruction.  Students who arrive after 8:20 must go to the office to check in.  Students can be dropped off at any of the following entrances:  Front Door, Arena Door and Primary Entrance in the morning.  Staff are on duty at these entrances beginning at 7:50 am.  No child is permitted to go to their class prior to that time.  Any children who arrive prior to 7:50 will either wait outside the entrance until staff arrives or enter through the main entrance and wait in the main foyer area until 7:50.  If your child arrives at the Arena Entrance or Primary Entrance after staff have ended their duty, they must enter through the main entrance.   It is the parent’s responsibility to ensure that their child enters the building safely after teacher supervision has ended in the morning.

Parents can accompany their children to their classes in the morning.  Parents are asked to assist their children with getting ready for the school day and then to leave the building.

Front Door

Please park in the designated area in front of the main entrance.  The lane in front of the school is for busses only.

Arena Entrance

Please park in the designated area.  There is a handicap zone near this entrance which cannot be blocked.

Primary Entrance

Please park in designated areas along the right hand side of the road or in the drop off zone by the entrance.  Do not park directly in front of the door.  There is also an option to stop and allow your child to exit your car without parking.  Please ensure that your child is ready to exit the vehicle to allow for safe and efficient movement of traffic.

Kindergarten (am pick up and pm drop off)

Parents of Kindergarten students can pick up their children following the morning session at the primary entrance.  The busses leave the school at approximately 11:10 am.. We ask that parents picking up children do so at 11:00 am..

The afternoon session for Kindergarten students begins at 11:45 am..  Kindergarten teachers will be on duty at 11:35 when the first bus arrives.  This is the earliest time that students can be dropped off for the afternoon session.  Students can be dropped off at the Primary Entrance.  Parents dropping off students are asked to do so between 11:35 and 11:45.   Students who arrive after 11:45 are to enter through the main entrance.

Student Pick up in the pm

Parents picking up children in the afternoon are to wait in the main foyer area of the Main entrance.   Students in Kindergarten to Grade 3 are to be met by parents/guardians in the school.  Students from Grades 4 – 7 can walk to vehicles.  All parents are students are to leave the building during dismissal through the main entrance only.   It is not necessary to arrive at the school until just before dismissal times.  Parents are asked to not enter in the corridor areas so instruction is not interrupted.  Parents are asked to ensure that students are aware of their pick up procedures prior to coming to school.  If you are picking up your children and they are not aware, please let the office know and we will notify children in their classes.   It is important that parents not remove students from lines as they go to the busses.

Parents are reminded that vehicles parked in the area across from the busses cannot leave until the busses have loaded and have been cleared to leave the grounds.

School Access during the Instructional Day

After students have begun instruction all doors to the school are locked. Visitors and Parents may enter the school through the main entrance, using the intercom security system.  All visitors are to proceed directly to the office.

Materials for children can be left at the office.  The office will notify the teacher or student as soon as possible.   If you need to see your child, they will be called to the office.  In extenuating circumstances where it is necessary for a parent to go to a class to get a child or accompany their child to class they will be given a visitor’s pass at the office.

If your child arrives or leaves the school during the instructional day (including lunch time), they must be signed out prior to leaving and be signed in upon return by an adult.   Parents are to notify teachers of any plans to pick their child up for lunch.  Parents are asked to return children to the school promptly at the end of the scheduled lunch time.
