Hello!  My name is Sherry Lynn Spracklin. For the past three months I have had the great opportunity of being an Intern at St. Joseph's Intermediate School.  It was through my internship that this GrassRoots Project has been developed.

This web site was constructed as a GrassRoots Project by a grade six class at St. Joseph's.  The project was created entirely by the students and myself.  The students have been reading the following books; The Sky Is Falling by Kit Pearson, Missing May by Cynthia Rylant and Steal Away Home by Lois Ruby.  The GrassRoots Project was intended to help the students and myself become more familiar with the three authors, incorporate technology into the curriculum and to have fun while we learned.

The first thing each student did was to research the author.  All of the information for each author was then compiled to make one Author Profile for each author.  Second, each student compiled a very general profile about themselves.  The students went by some of the information they found while doing research about their author.  This was done so that students could feel as if they too were authors.  Third, each student was to think about a new title of their book and was to creatively redesign the front covers of their book, The Sky Is Falling, Missing May and Steal Away Home.  Fourth, each student was to write a brief summary of the book. This was intended to entice others to read it.  Finally, each student had the opportunity to rewrite the ending to the story or write another chapter and could select their own title for their work.
