Lois Ruby grew up in California.
She moved to Kansas from Houston in August of 1973. She has had amusing
battles with her editors over "Kansasisms." In one story she wrote about
a girl getting into a pick-up, her editor was puzzled, she never heard
of that kind of truck. Ruby is a librarian by training and has worked
as a Young Adult Librarian for the Dallas Public Library. She has
also worked as an Art & Music Librarian for the University of Missouri.
As well, Ruby has worked as a waitress, a director of a Sunday School,
a statistical typist and a day-camp director. However, Ruby has stated
that she would much rather prefer writing to all of those jobs. Lois
Ruby has a husband named Thomas who is a Doctor. she also has three
sons named David who is married to Lee Ann, Kenn and Jeff.

She has
eight books published, including two short story collections for young
adult novels. Arriving At A Place You've Never Left, a collection
of short stories, has been named a best book for young adults .
