The Basics
This is a see what you need and how to do it guide for painting wood, ceramics or flower pots. It also includes definitions for terms you will commonly find in patterns.
The great thing about the brushes is you can use them for all the painting  styles listed below! Starting out, a pack of Plaid brushes work well. Once you get into the painting more, you may like using the Royal brushes; more expensive but better quality.
The initial cost is a bit expensive but once you have them, these things last for sooooooo many projects  that you definitely get your moneys worth.
       Good luck!
