The bald eagle is a very popular species.This animal was selected in 1782 to be its national bird.the bald eagle is protected by fedral law since 1940 and is an endangered species throughout much of North America.
Although the bald eagle is called the bald eagle it isn't really bald.Its head is covered just with white fealthers.It has a beak that is larger then two inches long and one inch from top to bottom.The bottom of its legs are bare.The beak is long and yellow.They have large eyes andhave white feathers on its head,tail,and the tips of its wings.The body has brown feathers.When a baby bald eagle(also known as eaglets or eyasses)it is brown and has tiny light markings.
Habitat- Bald eagles hunt in the day,and spend their nights in their nests.There nests might also be called aeries. It eats mostly fish which they sometimes get by taking them from other birds such as gulls and ospreys.He floats to shore with his prey and has a fine meal.the bald eagle lives mainly near rivers and big lakes.They are carnivores.Their diet also contains small mammals snakes,and other birds.
