DOUGLAS   FIR

The DOUGLAS FIR is a large tree.  It usually grows in between 40-60 feet in height but occasionally this tree can grow up to 250 feet high.  The trunk is usually 12-2 feet in diameter and can possibly 200 feet.  The leaves are between 1- 1 and a half inches in length.

The DOUGLAS FIR is a shining dark green colour.  The wood is very strong.  The needles do not fall off easy.

When the DOUGLAS FIR  is rubbed it smells of  camphor.  It was an important lumber at once and the lumber was known as Oregon pine or Yellow fir.  Sometimes this tree is called the DOUGLAS SPRUCE.

The scientific name is PSEUDOTSUGA MENZIESII  GLAUCA.
