The Mountain Lion is a large animal and belongs to the cat family. Mountain lions use to live in the United States and southern Canada. Settlers moved in and drove the animal out. The population of the Mountain lion has been reduced in both of these countries. Today, mountain lions live largely in western provinces and states from British Columbia and Alberta to California and New Maxico. They can be found in uninhabited areas of Florida and other pats of the South. Mountain lions are found commonly outside United States and Canada.
The Mountain lion was named by some American settlers. They thought that it was a female lion. Some other names for the mountain lion are cougar, catamount, and puma. It was commnley called the panther in the eastern states. The panther was a common name for a lot of cats.
A grownup lion is either gray in color or reddish and yellowish color called tawny. Its hair is fawn gray with reddish brown or grayish.This animal doesn't have any spots, So by this it is different from the jaguar.
A mountain loin hunts at night and eats animals. Ranchers think that mountain loins are pest because they eat their animals.
