Howler Monkey

Habitat: Central and South American Rainforest. Canopy layer (does spend time on ground).
 

Diet: Fruits and nuts.
 

Enemies: Jaguar and other large mammals, Large snakes, Humans.
 

Characteristic: The Howler is about 2-3 feet in length and weights about 15 pounds. Males are usually large then females. Their colors can vary from reddish to brownish to blackish.

    They are the noisiest animal in creation and they can be heard up to a mile away. They sort of wake up the rainforest and put them to sleep at night. Sometimes  they "howl" just before it rains.

    They live in groups af four to twenty or more members depending on the species. The female will give birth to one young. Twins are possible, but very rare. Their life span is about twenty years.

    Howlers are good swimmers. They also have excellent vision and can be see up to one-half a mile.The monkey loves to irritate the Jaguars. From high up in the canopy they will throw sticks and branches at the Jaguars below.
