Siderite
Glassy luster, Brown. Transparent to translucent. Hardness
3.5 to 4. Specific gravity 3.8 to 3.96. Siderite
is of little
commercial importance in the United States but is used
as an iron ore in England, Scotland, Austria Germany,
and
France. It occurs in ore veins and in the form
of round
lumps called clay ironstone.
