ANTHRACITE
Anthracite
is a black colored mineral; it has a crystal structure and a shell like
fracture. Anthracite's hardness is
2.5 to 4. Anthracite is "high" is luster;
it's specific gravity is 1.3 to 1.35. Anthracite
has no cleavage. The
crystal or stone size is massive.
Anthracite is usually
found in Sedimentary Rock.
It is found in many place
is the United States such as Colorado, Arkansas, Virginia and most of all
Pennsylvania.
Anthracite is a type of
coal, with the highest carbon content between 86% and 98% and a heat value
of nearly 15,000 B.T.U.s per pound. B.T.U.
stands for British Thermal Units.
Most frequently associated
with home heating, anthracite is a very small segment of the U.S coal market.
