The bullfrog
is the largest frog in North America. It is found in most places in North
America east of the Rocky Mountains and in many parts of the west. The
most common amphibian in North America can grow up to eight inches (twenty
centimeters) long, not including their hind legs. Their hind legs can grow
up to ten inches (twenty-five centimeters) long.
This species
of frog appears very late from it's winter sleep, sometimes as late as
July. It's tadpoles must therefore hibernate during the first winter life.
Male frogs have a call that sounds like "jug-o-rum". They are heard
mostly at night for several months during the spring and summer. Females
bullfrogs do not call. Frogs live in the water and have adapted by having
webbed feet. They feed on various insects.
The Bullfrog is a
very interesting animal. We had a lot of fun researching it. We hope you
also found it interesting to read about.
