BABOON

My favorite zoo animal is the baboon. The baboon lives in Africa. The baboon's natural habitat is up in trees but they climb down to hunt for food.  The thing i like about a baboon is they are very close to each other. They warn all the other baboons by making a loud grunt and because of one baboon warning all the other baboons are safe from enemies.  The baboons live in a herd because they are safer that way.
Appearance
A medium-sized monkey, it is between 24 and 30 inches in head and body length, with a tail of 15-24 inches. It is generally an ashy gray in color. The snout is somewhat long and slender. The fur around the sides of the face and down the neck forms a wide mane on males that extends beyond the shoulders. The skin on the buttocks and face is a pale shade of red.
Range
They are found in Egypt and the southwest corner of the Arabian Peninsula and also in Africa.
Habitat
They like open woodlands, savannahs, grassland, and rocky hill country.
Diet
They are omnivorous, eating a variety of plant matter, often grasses, but taking meat when easily available.
Reproduction
Breeding occurs year-round, but births are more frequent in May, June, November and December. The pregnacy period is around 170 days, and usually one young is born at a time.
General Behavior
Females spend much time grooming the male.
