Evening Grosbeak
TO HEAR WHAT AN EVENING GROSBEAK  SOUNDS LIKE

The bird that we have chosen is the Evening Grosbeak.  This bird is 7 1/2 to 8 1/2 inches long.  The male has a black crown,  a yellow forehead and  the rest of its head is brown.  Its legs and feet are a deep flesh color, and it has a large white patch under its wings.  The female is mostly gray, with yellow on the back of its head and on the sides of its neck.   It also has white on its wings and tail.

The Evening Grosbeak nests in trees which it builds out of twigs, grass, and moss.   It lays three to four eggs that are greenish-blue with gray and brown spots.

The Grosbeak likes to wander erratically and can show up in places where it has never been seen before.  It also likes to sing beautiful songs.

This bird likes to eat the seeds of spruce, birch, maple, and ash trees.   It also likes to eat wild berries.

You can get the Evening Grosbeak to come to your backyard by putting out corn and sunflower seeds.
