"THE JUNGLE BOOK" by Rudyard Kipling
A Review by Brad

SUMMARY - This takes place mostly through out the book in a jungle. Mowgli a little brown boy was brought into a pack of wolves. Shere Khan a mean tiger in the story wanted to kill Mowgli because he thought that Mowgli didn't belong in the pack. Mowgli actually fit in perfect. Baloo a fierce bear in the jungle taught Mowgli the law of the jungle,Baloo's friend Bagheera helped Mowgli out with doing things he was supposed to do in the jungle. Mowgli in the story was either kidnapped by the Monkey People or threatened by Shere Khan. The Monkey people by the way are monkeys who live in a little town of there own. When Mowgli was old enough he moved away from the jungle to find his human mom and dad (who were dead) in Afghanistan. He went on to marry a beautiful girl. They got married in Afghanistan were they lived for the rest of there lives!!!

SUSPENSE - It kept me guessing by where Shere Khan always wanted to capture Mowgli but Mowgli was always either around Bagheera or Baloo. Sometimes you would never know if Shere Khan was coming so then he would pop up and surprise the reader. The suspense in the story was where Mowgli was kidnapped by the Monkey People. The Monkey People was taking Mowgli high in the air and you would never know if they would drop Mowgli flat on his face. You would never know if something would happen to Mowgli in the story.

CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT - The development in the story was big changes. The author only described Mowgli as a little naked brown boy. When he grew up the author described him as a strong brown kid. There was a good development of the characters and you did really got  to know them. Shere Khan, Bagheera and Baloo were described that they are getting old.

LESSONS - Mowgli learned a very valuble lesson and it was never take on things that are too big for you. Shere Khan learned a lesson that you don't always get what you want. There was a good message in the story that when other different then you that doesn't mean that you don't have to be friends with them. All the characters learned a valuable lesson.

IMAGINATION - The creativity of the characters was good on how Mowgli was a good guy and Shere Khan was a bad guy. They had something described about them that right away knew that they were good or bad. The plot was where Shere Khan was trying to kill Mowgli but ended up getting killed by Mowgli himself. The setting of the story took place in the jungle. You could get a picture in your mind on what would happen next.

DIFFICULTY - In some parts in the story it was easy to follow but sometimes it was hard vocabulary and words. The inner meaning was hard to pick out, you could pick it out once you read a far bit into the story. There was another inner meaning of the story where Shere Khan was getting greedy and wanted mowgli for himself. The complexity of the story I say would be a perfect novel for kids 11 years and up.The vocabulary had some hard words but in some chapters there wasn't very many hard words.

OVERALL RECOMENDATION - I say the overall recomendation for a Grade Five would be a very good for but excellent for kids ages 11 and up.
