"Prime - Time Pitcher" by Matt Christopher
A Review by Sean

SUMMARY
Prime Time Pitcher is about a boy named Koby and his best friend Tug. Koby is a star pitcher and Tug is a star catcher. When the media discovers how good the boys are they start showing up at the games. All of the attention goes to his head and Koby starts to brag. Koby also starts to act like he is better than everybody else. His coach has a talk with Koby, and they solve the problem by telling him to ignore the media during games. Will Koby get his friends back or will they stay mad at Koby? And will Koby and his team make the playoffs? Make sure you read the book and find out.

Suspense - Koby Caplin is 12 years old and is a baseball player for his school. Koby started losing his friends when he became popular with the media. Koby was losing his concentration during games and started playing bad. The coach pulled him from games and put in someone else. It was suspenseful because I didn’t know if the team was going to continue playing good. I didn’t know if Koby might lose his friends.  I thought it was very suspenseful. I rate suspense 3 out of a possible 5.

Character Development - In the first of the book Koby was nice and tried to help any way he could. He became very popular and everyone liked him, but when he was going to be on TV he started to brag. Koby wasn’t nice to his teammates. When he finally realized how bad he was acting he won his friends back. I found out that there was a lot of character development with Koby because he had to adjust to all the attention he was getting. I rate Character development 4 out of a possible 5.

Lessons - The lesson in this story is that you should always be a team player.  You should try and act nice no matter what the problem is.  If you don’t you might end up like Koby did when he started to brag and his friends turned against him.  You should also strive to help people and be a good friend.  I rate the lesson learned in this book a 5 out of a possible 5.

Difficulty - I think this book is for children from ages 8 to 11.  I found there were a few hard words in the book, but overall it wasn’t difficult to read and comprehend.  The storyline wasn’t difficult to follow, even though there were many twists and turns.  The book had a good lesson in it, even if you were not interested in sports.  I rate the difficulty of this book 4 out of a possible 5.

Imagination - When you read this book it isn’t difficult to imagine that you are part of the team and one of Koby’s friends.  The author makes the characters seem like they could be one of your friends going through some ups and downs. He also makes reading about the baseball games feel like you are really watching the game.  I rate imagination 4 out of a possible 5.

Overall Recommendation - I highly recommend this book especially for anyone who likes team sports, especially baseball.
It is very easy to get caught up in reading this book so that you feel like you are part of it and forget what’s on the go around you.  I rate this book 4 out of a possible 5.
